It can be difficult to select the best internet plan for your home or office and there's plenty to think about: how many Mbps do you need? How many connecting devices do you use? Will it cost you the most? Why should I pay for internet service so much?
Business internet provides more features and benefits than residential, and prices are worth more. The residential internet often has limited upload speeds and only has better cost-effectiveness services contracts, while business internet demands faster upload speeds in order to perform operations. ISPs also provide business internet assured service and uptimes. We are asked this question so often that it seemed worth explaining why business Internet costs more than consumer internet packages. There are therefore 6 explanations. 1. Static IP Addresses You need a destination address to show that you are searching for a workplace infrastructure, including a mail servers, a file server, air-conditioners, video cameras etc. If you need an internet address such as ServiceDealz.com to solve on a server, you have to know where the traffic can go on the internet (through a DNS server). Residential internet connections are a moving target. You regularly update your Internet address, so that you don't have a business infrastructure. People who want to do this anyway have workarounds, but they are more nuanced and less secure than a convention of getting a set address not changing every couple of days. Static IP addresses are rare, too. In the past, they were going to send everybody a 20-block address, and now we need to tell the carrier why we need every address and for what it is. You normally need a business internet connection if you have premise infrastructure. 2. Upload and Download Speed Balance A different solution is to provide high download speeds and much slower upload rates for residential, and even some business Internet providers. Download speed is critical for most people to use the internet at home, to stream movies and to load the websites and to consume content. You need the speed upload if you'd like to build and submit content to the world. You have to upload speed a lot if you want to back up your data from offsite. Business internet services usually give the same download speed. Upload speed is almost always thrown on residential connections. A typical bundle is 20 Mbps down, 2Mbps up. This is often reduced to 20 pp2, or only the download speed will be reported and uncertainty will occur. 3. Direct vs. Shared Connectivity You will get a direct connection from your office to your carrier if you order a fibers, T1 or even SDSL. Cable or fiber are a cheaper way to do this and add a neighborhood door. Sure, if everybody's online, it could slow down a bit, but it saves the carrier the time, cost and maintenance that every customer has a direct connection to. Better still, you can only go to your neighbor's house and tap their link if you order access to the internet. This is not the way that business internet operators usually do, but it is popular for residential operators. If you read the fine print on residential advertisements, the results will be different, and speeds may not be guaranteed. Typically the speed is decided on in a business grade connection. 4. Saturation ISPs are intelligent. You know that most houses will not use your connection in the afternoon and will not use it in the middle of the night. Most of them are residential connections in the evening, and they only go to bed for a few hours. Due to the mutual residential connectivity, it can ironically do better than advertised during peak hours. On the contrary, if an ISP is selling connectivity to a business, 30 people will use every ounce of bandwidth available, practically all the day long. Commercial connections are normally saturated, whereas residential connections are only usually used at evening and at weekends. 5. Service Level Agreements If you buy a business internet, you normally get a SLA, meaning that if they do not provide the services as agreed they have to reimburse your money. Response times are measured and brief, and normally you are assisted in a call center reading a script by experts instead of entry level staff. Residential links are "best effort" which means that they can be limited for many days, but the issues can be solved as soon as possible. 6. Because They Can You can't get residential internet if your place is zoned commercial. If you move from a home office, it is something to consider, but normally you won't find residential pricing and service in an office or company and it is difficult to get a business service in your building. By pressuring business-zoned property to sell their best service levels without protecting their worth, businesses are obliged to purchase business internet. Some carriers have a "SOHO" package or home office package, providing some of the features of a business data connection, but it is so rare that many internet vendors don't even know these packages exist. In short, business internet costs a lot more than residential internet, for some justifiable reasons and some unjust reasons. With more and more users in the internet and higher expectations, many businesses will need to make difficult decisions about how to finance them. If your data isn't in your workplace, your internet access can be a very significant bottleneck in your business.
